When you choose one of the predefined color settings in Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 6, those colors settings become your working spaces. Working spaces are the color profiles associated with the color modes. The custom color setting requires you choose your own working spaces.
- Jan 04, 2013 The default/generic CMYK of choice is described as U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2. That is also the CMYK space inclued in the North American General Purpose 2 sychronized color setting in Bridge. But - if you download the folder of ICC profiles from the Adobe website, there is no such file inside. There is one called USWebCoatedSWOP.icc.
- Up vote 1 down vote. They are many different ICC Color Profiles for storing color as CMYK and RGB. There is no one end all be all encoding for color. There is RGB, sRGB, Adobe RGB, U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2, GRACol, etc.
- Ensure the “U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2” is selected as the profile. Leave all other settings at default and click OK and save PDF. Leave all other settings at default and click OK and save PDF. All of your colors should now be converted to the appropriate color profile for printing.
- Photoshop CS6 All-in-One For Dummies. For example, say you choose North America Prepress 2 from the Settings drop-down list in the Color Settings dialog box. In this case, the default for CMYK is U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2, which is a specific CMYK setting for a web printing press and coated.
- Sheetfed Coated v2, U.S. Sheetfed Uncoated v2, U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 or U.S. Web Uncoated v2. Select the colour profile that best reflects your printing conditions. In Photoshop there are two options for making a colour mode conversion. One is to select Image Mode and CMYK. The second option is to select Image Mode Convert to Profile.
CMYK working spaces are a little more involved than RGB options. CMYK working spaces serve a threefold purpose:
- Photoshop converts your RGB file to the CMYK color space when you choose Image→Mode→CMYK.
- You view your RGB image in the CMYK color space when you choose View→Proof Setup→Working CMYK.
- The CMYK color space determines how a CMYK file is displayed on an RGB monitor.
Europe (FOGRA), Japan, and the United States have specific color profiles for printing. Those CMYK options are divided between those for coated and uncoated paper, and sheet-fed or web printing presses.
The latter two have different percentages of ink coverage and paper stock. The GRACol profile (General Requirements for Applications in Commercial Offset Lithography) provides press measurement data to be used to create profiles for sheetfed offset printing. Macs also have a ColorSync Generic CMYK profile. You should leave the setting at U.S. web Coated (SWOP) v2 unless your commercial printer tells you otherwise.

The new profiles replace the past profile versions from January 2003. The consistent employment of the new profiles is generally recommended, since they correspond both to the current conditions of the ISO standardization and represent attainable results in the standardized offset printing.
